There are a lot of popular shows and movies that I have no inclination to watch because they are not a genre I usually enjoy, but they often come up in conversations either deliberately or via cultural mentions. Now I have a cheat code of sorts lol. Thjs started again innocently enough I happened upon a commentary of a TV show I did watch by Olay (I will link her page below), Olay is a youtube commentator who has several channels and I enjoy her a lot cause she makes me think.
But after watching that commentary I saw a preview for “how I met your mother” which is a show I haven’t really watched and fell into that, then it was a commentary on various Bring it on movies, which led me to Kendal next who also does a lot of commentaries on shows and movies and I was hooked! Lol
These ladies dissect their subject in a way that is deliciously juicy lol. They go into details I wouldn’t have noticed and that brings me to the subtext issue and the only bone of contention I have with my girls, they often say the directors wanted you to feel this, the producers did that on purpose and while sometimes I agree, other times I wonder… did they though? But I do agree that whether intentional or accidental the subtexts were in fact included!
The breakdown by Olay of why the first bring it on, was the avatar for “how to be an ally” and the subsequent ones were not is masterful! My girl has as mucho brains!
Kendal is perhaps not as deep most of the time, but she likes messy movies and has a channel called “Bad movies and a beat’ she’s hilarious!

Now if you’re like me and don’t have the time or inclination to watch all movies/tv shows you hear about, but want to know more context this cheating method is for you. lOL
Enjoy
