Atalanta’s Samardzic grabs late winner against Napoli

BERGAMO, Italy, Feb 22 – Atalanta’s Lazar Samardzic scored a late winner as they fought back to beat third-placed visitors Napoli 2-1 on Sunday, extending their unbeaten Serie A run to nine games.

Napoli took the lead in the 18th minute when the unmarked Sam Beukema headed home Miguel Gutierrez’s free kick after Rasmus Hojlund won a free kick outside the Atalanta area.

The hosts equalised just past the hour when Mario Pasalic headed home from Nicola Zalewski’s corner before Samardzic netted from Lorenzo Bernasconi’s cross in the 81st.

Napoli remain on 50 points from 26 games, 14 adrift of leaders Inter Milan and four behind second-placed AC Milan, who welcome mid-table Parma later on Sunday.

Atalanta are seventh with 45 points after winning their last three Serie A matches and trail fourth-placed Roma by two points before the capital side host lowly Cremonese in the late game.
