Down in Jacksonville at Northside High School, community members gathered to celebrate the soundtrack of black history. From spirituals and hymns to gospel, jazz and spoken word, all were welcome to join in the fun and learn.
As it didn’t take long for everyone in attendance to start moving and grooving to the music, shake and bake to the rhythm. Some future professional dancers out here as even our own Maiya Crews was there singing along. Plus performances from a young group signing “Ain’t Nobody Gonna Turn Me Around,” and various s peakers educating the present on the past for 100 years of black history.
Jacksonville native and well respected Onslow County teacher Sonja Williams was honored during the event and spoke on how music brings all walks of life together.
Music does bring people together no matter what race they may be. So coming together and making this place what it should be, and that is the best and helping everyone be the best they can be. So if you’re not here, you definitely missed a treat.
A powerful message and event to continue the 100th year of black history.
