The Minnesota Timberwolves are trying to solidify their spot in the Western Conference. Right now, they sit sixth, which is just a spot above the play-in. They are coming off a game where they got crushed by the Philadelphia 76ers.
In that game, Anthony Edwards got caught in a viral moment against Tyrese Maxey. Maxey dunked on Edwards during the game. Those two players were the leading scorers for their respective teams. Still, Edwards was not pleased with getting dunked on like that.
Following the game, Edwards reacted to Maxey getting the best of him in one of the first games back after the All-Star break.

Timberwolves Guard Reacts to Viral Tyrese Maxey Dunk
After the game, Edwards described the dunk to reporters in the locker room.
“He’s incredible, man, he already knows he’s one of my favorite players to watch in the league. He dunked on me today, too. I don’t really like that. But he’s incredible, man. I didn’t know he was going downhill. I just ended up turning my head. I’m thinking he was going to lay it up, then he went and punched it. It was a little quick dunk, too. I couldn’t even get a chance to block it. But that’s why we play the game. I’m not mad at that.”
Edwards is known throughout the league as one of the most athletic players in the NBA. He understands good dunks and what it means to the fans, as well as the momentum of the games. He tries to dunk on other players in almost every game he plays.
Both Edwards and Maxey played in the All-Star Game after having a great start to the season. There is a very good chance that both players will end up on the All-NBA team when the year is over. Both are guys who have to play at an elite level for their teams to make deep playoff runs.

The Timberwolves Need Help for Edwards
Despite making the trade for Rudy Gobert a couple of seasons ago, the Timberwolves have the eighth-worst defense in the league. As a multiple-time Defensive Player of the Year, he was supposed to help anchor their defense and keep them ready to go on that end of the court.
With Edwards leading the offense, Minnesota has the fifth-best offense in the league. Offense has not been the issue for them this year. After making back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances, the Wolves are trying to find a way to take that next step.
Getting dunked on by Maxey won’t change Edwards’ approach to the game. He always plays with no fear. The rest of the team needs to take his lead, and that will be the key to them making another deep playoff run. Adding defensive help would have been advantageous for them to do at the trade deadline.
