ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – During Brian Smith’s murder trial for the deaths of Veronica Abouchuk and Kathleen Jo Henry, the jury watched horrific videos of a woman dying.
“Everybody dies in my movies,” a man with a a distinctive British South African accent says as he narrates violence with turns of glee and annoyance as Henry, 30, was slowly, deliberately and cruelly tortured and strangled to death.
The entire thing was filmed.
At the time prosecutors presented more than 20 minutes of video they say was filmed by Smith himself, as he strangled and beat Henry to death in the early hours of Sept. 4, 2019.
The man in the video speaks to a perceived audience saying at different points, “Hit the ‘like’ button,” and “I’m trying to make a movie,” while Henry dies.
“In my movies, everyone dies,” he says and, “What must my followers think about you?”
Smith seemed to crave attention.
This week, “Lost Women of Alaska” debuts and is sure to bring Smith back into the news cycle again.
The docu-series is from executive producers Octavia Spencer and Christina Douglas and centers on missing and murdered Indigenous women in Alaska.
The three-episode special focuses on the murders of Abouchuk and Henry, leading to the conviction of Brian Steven Smith.
It premieres on Investigation Discovery (ID) Network on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, from 8-11 p.m. ET.
“LOST WOMEN OF ALASKA offers an unsettling look into the murders of Veronica Abouchuk and Kathleen Jo Henry, killed in 2018 and 2019. They join a cacophony of Indigenous voices seemingly lost without trace in the remote Alaskan landscape, but through the courage of some unlikely heroes, the twisted crimes of a potential serial killer come to light,” reads the description of the show.
“Over three episodes packed with surprising turns, LOST WOMEN OF ALASKA delivers intimate and unflinching access to the disturbing impact of a predator who turns a community into a personal hunting ground. But his arrest is only the beginning of a far deeper horror.”
Alaska’s News Source also documented the Smith case exposing possible additional murders.
Last week Alaska’s News Source interviewed momentum Content executive producer Christina Douglas about the series during a podcast.
