One of the most celebrated films in Nicolas Cage‘s filmography arrives on Hulu very soon. The Coen brothers‘ crime comedy Raising Arizona stars Cage as a former convict named Herbert (“H.I.” or “Hi”) McDunnough who places himself at the center of a kidnapping case.
Raising Arizona starts streaming on Hulu in March
Raising Arizona debuts on Netflix on March 1, 2025. Some of the other movies debuting on the platform that day are Ratatouille, Point Break, Pearl Harbor, The Revenant, Silver Linings Playbook, Speed, 127 Hours, My Cousin Vinny, Marie Antoinette, and Pixar’s Toy Story.
The plot of Raising Arizona revolves around Herbert and his wife Edwina “Ed” McDunnough (Holly Hunter). After realizing they can’t have a biological child of their own, Herbert decides to steal one child from a set of quintuplets belonging to a different family.
The film’s cast also includes Trey Wilson as Nathan Arizona, Sr., John Goodman as Gale Snoats, William Forsythe as Evelle Snoats, Sam McMurray as Glen, Frances McDormand as Dot, Randall “Tex” Cobb as Leonard Smalls, and Lynne Dumin Kitei as Florence Arizona.
Upon its release, Raising Arizona found some success commercially, earning $29 million at the global box office. It has also received widespread acclaim from critics. The movie currently has a 91% approval rating on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes, based on 66 reviews.
Richard Corliss of Time Magazine wrote, “To their old fascination with Sunbelt pathology, to their side-winding Steadicam and pristine command of screen space, the Coens have added a robust humor, a plot that keeps outwitting expectations and a surprising dollop of sympathy for their forlorn kidnapers.”
Raising Arizona has a significantly lighter tone than the Coens’ previous movie, the 1984 neo-noir crime-drama Blood Simple, which was also their feature debut as directors. The brothers’ following project, Miller’s Crossing, was a gangster film.
