Man United keeper Lammens happy with Van der Sar comparison

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens has said it’s ‘nice’ to hear comparisons with club great Edwin van der Sar.

Lammens impressed as Manchester United battled to a 1-0 win at Everton on Monday night, with the young goalkeeper commanding his area well amid the threat of the home side’s set-pieces.

He made four saves, including a late striker from Tyrique George to prevent an Everton equaliser.

Lammens has impressed during his debut season at Old Trafford and caught the eye of Van der Sar, who was part of the Sky Sports team for Monday Night Football.

Van der Sar said he spotted similarities between Lammens and himself, a comparison the latter is happy with.

“[I] just try to stay calm, play my own game,” the Belgium international said.

“I know I have the qualities, I wouldn’t be here otherwise. So, [I] just believe in myself, the players around me and my teammates support me really much.

“Now I just keep on building, keep getting that confidence. Like today, getting those wins, feeling important, is really important.

“And yeah, like you said, if I’m in a comparison with Edwin van der Sar, it’s always nice to hear.”
