Art inspires fashion in new Topeka & Shawnee Co. Public Library exhibit

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Everything old is new again in the latest exhibit at the Topeka and Shawnee Co. Public Library’s Alice C. Sabatini Gallery.

Brittany Keegan, the library’s curator of exhibits, gave Eye on NE Kansas a sneak peek of Runway Remix ahead of its Feb. 27 opening.

Keegan said the idea started with a concept of creating their own Project Runway-type exhibit. They found several items in the library’s existing collection, then enlisted various artists, students, costume designers, and volunteers to create “wearable art” inspired by the pieces.

Those creations form the heart of the exhibit. In addition, it features an interactive area to test patterns and designs, and learn about clothing construction.

Runway Remix runs Feb. 27 to May 17. It is free.
