The 46th annual Military Science Hall of Honor will recognize two new inductees from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the University Center.

Stephen Smith, a Vietnam War veteran and former Arlington State College student, and Lt. Col. Mark Martin, a former military science professor and vice president for development at UTA, will be inducted into the Hall of Honor.

Stephen Smith attended UTA from 1959 to 1963 and was commissioned to Vietnam in 1966, said Ken Smith, UTA Cadet Corps Alumni Council vice president of finance and Hall of Honor chair. Later in life, he was involved in business, such as printing, for about 30 years before buying a restaurant.

Martin served in the Army for 20 years, leading units abroad. He is the executive vice president of J.F. Smith Group, a fundraising campaign consulting firm, Ken Smith said.

The event begins with check-in and registration in the Rosebud Theater foyer at 10 a.m., with the ceremony taking place at 10:30 a.m. in Bluebonnet Ballroom.

Elizabeth Newman, College of Liberal Arts dean, will speak during the induction ceremony, and Tamara Brown, provost and senior vice president of Academic Affairs, will deliver a keynote speech in the afternoon.

Following the induction ceremony, there will be a luncheon at noon with speeches from Lt. Col. Gregory LeClair, professor of military science, and Brig. Gen. Ricky Gibbs, Cadets Corps Alumni Chapter president. Following the speeches there will be a reenactment called “I am a Maverick.”

A toast, a recognition of missing soldiers and the playing of taps will end the luncheon portion. Closing ceremonies start at 1:30 p.m., and cake and coffee will be served at 2 p.m.

Ken Smith said the ceremony is a legacy event that showcases previous cadets and officials.

“It’s something for the cadets to lean on, strive for and put their mark on the corps and legacy going forward,” Smith said.
