Google Messages Details page brings back RCS edit history

After losing with the broader Material 3 Expressive redesign, the Google Messages Details page has regained edit history.

When the Details page was updated with M3 Expressive, it just displayed a message preview, Status (Sent, Delivered, and Read breakdown of read receipts with timestamps), and From. Before this fullscreen interface, the previous design was a dialog box.

Google Messages is now showing Type, like “End-to-End Encrypted Rich Communication Service message” or “Text message.” It joins the lock icon in the main thread. In the case of SMS, you’ll also get “Priority: Normal.”

That is followed by Edit History with the “Original message” and “Edited to” shown. This follows a few months of only being able to see that a message was edited in the main thread.

We’re seeing Edit history rolled out with the latest stable release of Google Messages (version 20260206_00_RC00), while Type is currently limited to the beta channel.
