VHS brings ‘The Sound of Music’ to the stage

VERSAILLES — The Versailles High School Music Department is proud to present this year’s spring musical, The Sound of Music, performing March 26, 27, and 28 at the Versailles Performing Arts Center.

This treasured Broadway classic has inspired audiences for generations. Filled with beloved songs like “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” the show combines warmth, humor, and powerful moments of courage.

This year’s production features a cast of seventy students in grades six through twelve. Under the direction of Mason DeMange and Bailey Winner, students have spent months preparing vocals, choreography, and staging to bring this iconic story to life. Their hard work and enthusiasm promise an uplifting performance for the entire community.

Set in Austria in 1938, The Sound of Music tells the story of Maria, a young woman whose love of music and free spirit lead her to become governess for the seven children of Captain von Trapp. What begins as a simple assignment soon transforms an entire family. As political unrest and the growing threat of occupation loom over Austria, the von Trapps must rely on their faith to face an uncertain future.

More than just a school production, this musical is a celebration of the arts in the Versailles community. Families, alumni, and community members are invited to experience the dedication and talent of students and support the continued growth of the performing arts at Versailles High School.
