‘Blue Moon’ (2025)
Rotten Tomatoes: 90% | IMDb: 6.8/10
We are now roughly two weeks away from the 98th Academy Awards taking place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. In preparation, why not check out one of this year’s nominees in the form of Richard Linklater‘s Blue Moon, with star Ethan Hawke nominated for Best Actor? The movie stars Hawke as lyricist Lorenz Hart, who, on the historic 1943 opening night of Oklahoma!, is forced to watch his longtime partner Richard Rodgers (Andrew Scott) triumph in his new creative chapter with Oscar Hammerstein.
“After all these years, the pair of Hawke and Linklater remains a winning combination,” wrote Ross Bonaime in Collider’s review of Blue Moon, with their collaboration enough alone to entice you to watch. Featuring one of Hawke’s best modern performances, alongside stellar turns from the likes of Scott, Bobby Cannavale, and Margaret Qualley, this is a relatively new Netflix arrival not to be missed.

‘The Addams Family’ (2019)
Rotten Tomatoes: 46% | IMDb: 5.9/10
One of the newest arrivals on Netflix, having joined the platform on February 20th, 2019’s The Addams Family is an animated adaptation of the Charles Addams comic strip of the same name. Whilst preparing for the arrival of their enigmatic extended family, the film follows this gothic clan as they go head-to-head with a crafty reality TV host.
Perhaps the most underrated adaptation of this classic comic strip, directors Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan combine for a funny adventure that can be enjoyed by the whole family. What’s more, the movie boasts a star-studded voice cast, including Allison Janney, Finn Wolfhard, Chloë Grace Moretz, Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, and the late, great Catherine O’Hara.

‘Fall’ (2022)
Rotten Tomatoes: 79% | IMDb: 6.4/10
Sometimes, the simplest ideas are the most effective. To keep you clinging to the edge of your seat this weekend, you won’t find a better option than 2022’s Fall. Directed by Scott Mann, the film follows two young women, Becky (Grace Caroline Currey) and Hunter (Virginia Gardner), whose high-rise climb up a TV tower goes awry as they find themselves stuck at the top.
A story as simple as its title, Fall focuses on an intimate survival tale and nails it. Also starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the film boasts a pair of fantastic lead turns from Currey and Gardner as they truly sell the terrifying ordeal they find themselves in. An adrenaline rush from start to finish, it should go without saying that this is not for anyone afraid of heights.
