After blizzard recovery, a financial hangover awaits for Mass. communities

Communities on the South Shore and Cape Cod are still digging out after Monday’s historic blizzard. Once that work is done, the question becomes: who foots the bill?

This snowy winter could turn into a longer-term headache for cities and towns with little wiggle room in their budgets. J.J. Burke, the fire chief for the Cape Cod town of Sandwich, and Evan Horowitz of Tufts’ Center for State Policy Analysis join WBUR’s Morning Edition to explain.

This segment airs on February 27, 2026. Audio will be available after the broadcast.
