If you’re skipping the movie theater this weekend and would prefer to settle down on the sofa for your own movie night, there are plenty of great releases to look forward to streaming before you head back to work.
This week, the best new movie I’ve found across all the best streaming services is “The Secret Agent,” a Brazilian political thriller that is in the running for Best Picture at the Oscars in just a couple of weeks. If you’re planning to catch it before the ceremony, Hulu has this intense thriller from Sunday, March 1.

‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’
“Kiss of the Spider Woman” is the latest musical drama from Bill Condon (“Dreamgirls,” “Beauty and the Beast), and while the director’s latest watch was a box office bomb, it might have a shot at finding its fans now that it’s available to stream on Hulu.
Based on the acclaimed, Tony Award-winning Broadway musical of the same name, “Kiss of the Spider Woman” revolves around revolutionary Valentín (Diego Luna) and his cellmate, Molina (Tonatiuh), a window dresser convicted of public indecency. Locked inside their Brazilian prison, the pair start to bond as the former allows Molina to recount the plot of his favorite Hollywood musical, starring the inimitable Ingrid Luna (Jennifer Lopez).

‘Shelter’
When you see Jason Statham getting top billing for an action movie, I think you know exactly what kind of movie you’re in for. Ric Roman Waugh’s new action thriller “Shelter” just arrived on Premium Video on Demand (PVOD) storefronts this week, and it pretty much follows the Statham formula.
Here, former British government assassin Michael Mason (Statham) has retired to an island off the coast of Scotland. One day, he rescues a young girl (Bodhi Rae Breathnach) from the ocean, putting them both in danger. While Mason grapples with his turbulent past, he works to protect the girl, putting them both on a tense journey of survival and redemption. It’s not the highest-rated film on this list, but if you’re after Statham-style thrills, “Shelter” will absolutely deliver.

‘The Bluff’
Since “Pirates of the Caribbean,” we haven’t seen much nautical action on our screens, but Prime Video’s new original is here to change that, and if you’re in the mood for some swashbuckling, “The Bluff” is the movie to stream this week
The movie follows Ercell “Bloody Mary” Bodden (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), a woman who has fled her violent life on the high seas. Alas, her past comes calling when her former captain, Connor (Karl Urban), arrives to seek revenge, tearing her peaceful world apart. Armed with lethal swordsmanship, cunning traps, and an intense will, this adrenaline-fueled action movie sees Ercell wage a brutal war against Connor and his merciless crew in a bid to save her family.

‘The Secret Agent’
Kleber Mendonça Filho’s acclaimed Brazilian thriller “The Secret Agent” hits Hulu on Sunday, and given its reputation among critics and moviegoers alike, it seems like the pick of the bunch this weekend.
The film takes us back to Brazil in 1977 and introduces us to technology expert Marcelo Alves (Wagner Moura). Marcelo is on the run and hoping to reunite with his son. To do so, he travels to Recife during Carnival, but soon learns that the city is not the safe haven he expected. If good reviews aren’t enough to convince you, Filho’s thriller was also the most-awarded movie at Cannes last year, and it earned four nods during the 2026 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.

‘The Summer Book’
If the rest of these releases seem a bit intense, you might instead prefer “The Summer Book,” a quieter drama based on Tove Jansson’s 1972 novel of the same name.
“The Summer Book” is set on a small, tranquil island in the Gulf of Island and revolves around Sophia (Emily Matthews), a young girl who spends the summer with her grandmother (played by Glenn Close) following the death of her mother. While her father (Anders Danielsen Lie) is overcome with grief, Sophia and her grandmother spend their time together exploring what natural wonders the island has to offer.
