PSG, Nantes Agree to Postpone League Match Amid Chelsea Preparation

French football is modifying PSG’s schedule around these two Round of 16 matches against Chelsea, with an expected postponement of the league match scheduled between the two European clashes.

Several weeks ago, while the playoff between the two French clubs pitted them against each other, the LFP began preparing the ground for the future round of 16 participants in the Champions League, whether it be Monaco or PSG. The match between the two teams that precedes the first leg of the European competition was scheduled as early as Friday, March 6 evening, to leave as much time as possible before the first leg of the European confrontation. A nice initiative from the LFP that we had highlighted at the time.

Since then, PSG has eliminated Monaco and drawn Chelsea in the draw, with a first leg on Wednesday, the 11th, and the return as early as Tuesday, the 17th, two big fixtures in barely six days. As soon as the dates were officialized, the Parisian club contacted FC Nantes, its opponent on the league matchday between these two European matches, to request a postponement of the match between the two clubs.

Nantes immediately accepted as reported by Ouest-France and PSG therefore submitted the idea to the LFP which explained it in a statement: “Concerning the Paris Saint-Germain – FC Nantes match, in order to prepare in the best conditions its double confrontation with Chelsea in the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain has referred the matter to the Board of Directors of the LFP, after agreement with FC Nantes, for the match to be played the week of April 20, 2026. The decision of the Board of Directors of the LFP will be known as soon as possible.”

Sign that this postponement is already underway: the LFP has broadcast the programming for the 26th round of Ligue 1, including PSG vs. Nantes, and the match in question does not appear on the schedule. Its rescheduling no longer seems to be anything more than a formality. For the anecdote, if PSG vs. Nantes does indeed take place the week of April 20, it will be… just after the Champions League quarterfinals.
