Sierra Ferrell is a sensational artists for representing country and Appalachian roots music on a national stage, and that’s exactly what she got to do Saturday, February 28th on Saturday Night Live. Mumford & Sons were the official musical guests, but they used their opportunity to showcase some of their friends, along with selections from their new album Prizefighter.
When 4-time Grammy winner Sierra Ferrell announced she would be going on tour with Mumford & Sons yet again in 2026, some scratched their heads. Ferrell’s big enough now where she’s headlining festivals, and can fill her own rooms to capacity in big theaters, which she does when not on opening shows. But according to folks close to Sierra, she loves the Mumford opening spot. It allows her to play for arena crowds, and the band has been more than accommodating to her.
That friendship was underscored when they brought her out to sing “Here.” Aaron Dessner of The National also was a guest on the song. Unfortunately, neither the announcer nor the band shouted Sierra Ferrell out by name during the performance, but fans quickly took to social media to find out who the lady in the dress was as established fans professed their happiness to see Sierra Ferrell make her SNL debut.
The next question is when will Sierra Ferrell will get to return to showcase her own music on the show? She might have to wait for a new album. But at least now SNL is familiar with her.
Unfortunately, Sierra Ferrell’s appearance got a little bit lost in the shuffle since it came in the aftermath of the United States attacking Iran and the news cycle being dominated by that development. But make no mistake about it, whether live or watching later on YouTube or clips on social media, many folks found out who Sierra Ferrell was on Saturday night, and they won’t soon forget.
Go Sierra!
