Two Mizzou professors recognized by the Academy of Science of St. Louis

Two University of Missouri professor were recently recognized for outstanding achievements by the Academy of Science of St. Louis.

Wesley Warren, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of genomics in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and a principal investigator at the Bond Life Sciences Center, was one of six scientists selected for the Fellow Award for Outstanding Achievement in Science. The honor recognizes individuals whose work has led to significant advances in science, engineering and technology.

Warren, who also has an appointment in the School of Medicine, has spent more than 30 years advancing understanding of genome evolution and function. His research has produced influential discoveries that continue to shape the fields of genomics and comparative biology.

In addition, the Bayer University Mentoring Program — a collaborative initiative involving David Braun, director of Mizzou’s Interdisciplinary Plant Group and professor of biological sciences and plant science and technology — will receive the 2026 Science Leadership Award. The program helps graduate students and postdoctoral researchers explore career paths beyond academia.

Formed in 1856, the Academy of Science in St. Louis has been a leader in the advancing and integrating science and technology into contemporary society.
