The Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) has announced that US–Irish violist Sheila Browne will be joining its faculty as professor of viola in autumn this year.
Browne served as teaching assistant to renowned violist Karen Tuttle while pursuing her bachelor’s degree at the Juilliard School, and later studied with Karen Ritscher and Paul Katz during her Master’s degree at Rice University, and with Kim Kashkashian in Germany as part of the German Academic Exchange Service.
She has performed as violist of the Fire Pink trio and the Arianna, Pelligrini, and Gotham quartets; as principal violist of the New World Symphony; and as co-principal violist of the New York String Seminar.
In addition to giving masterclasses internationally, Browne has taught at the Lynn Conservatory, the University of North Carolina’s School of the Arts, the University of Delaware, the University of Tennessee, as well as serving on the inaugural viola faculty of the Tianjin Juilliard School.
