The Miami (Ohio) men’s basketball team has had some close calls this season. Yet with one game left in the regular season (Friday at Ohio), the RedHawks remain the only undefeated men’s Division I team at 30-0.
It’s been a long and winding journey to notoriety for head coach Travis Steele’s squad, which is currently ranked No. 19 in the AP Top 25. Thanks to a less-than-impressive schedule from playing in the Mid-American Conference, Miami (Ohio) tends to lag in predictive metrics. The RedHawks were No. 89 in the KenPom rankings Wednesday, sliding two spots after Tuesday night’s win over Toledo. And as our own CJ Moore noted, they have yet to play a Quad 1 game and have just one Quad 2 win.
Can the RedHawks run the table? A more applicable question might be, will they be left out of the NCAA Tournament if they don’t win their own conference tourney?
It will be one of the more interesting storylines to follow with Selection Sunday looming less than two weeks away.
