Netflix clearly knows what its subscribers like. Thriller movies are always dominating the top 10 most-watched list, and so the world’s biggest streaming service ensures there are always new options for viewers to enjoy. And as March 2026 arrives, it’s proving to be no exception.
The week ahead is a little barren when it comes to new to Netflix thriller movies (though binge-watchers have some new TV shows to enjoy), but the platform’s early March drop has provided plenty of choice. This includes a crime epic classic from Martin Scorsese, as well as two intense movies that are based on true stories that were reported around the world.
If you’re eager to stream some thrillers this week, here’s the best new to Netflix arrivals I’ve found. Each of these is worthy of a spot in your watchlist and will have you hooked instantly.
Best Netflix thriller movies to watch this week
‘Casino’ (1995)
Following the success of 1990’s “Goodfellas,” Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci reunited five years later for “Casino.” This crime thriller packs a similar tone and themes to the trio’s previous collaboration, and again explores the morally murky world of “made men” and sprawling criminal enterprises. It’s not as iconic as “Goodfellas,” but it’s a strong spiritual follow-up, and De Niro and Pesci are both in top form in this film.
Set in the glittering, but hollow, facade of Las Vegas, Ace Rothstein (De Niro) and Nicky Santoro (Pesci) are childhood friends who find themselves consumed by a quest for power, influence, and ill-gotten gains in the 1970s and 80s. Ace is tasked with running the Tangiers Casino, while Nicky acts as an enforcer. However, when Ace falls in love with a local hustler, Ginger (Sharon Stone), and Nicky becomes increasingly erratic, all bets are off.

‘Hotel Mumbai’ (2018)
March is shaping up to be a great month on Netflix for fans of British actor and filmmaker Dev Patel. I’ve already strongly recommended the enchanting dark fantasy “The Green Knight,” which sees him play a member of the Round Table of Camelot, and thriller fans should also stream “Hotel Mumbai,” a Patel-fronted action-thriller. Adding real urgency to this tense thriller is the fact that it’s all based on the true story of the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
In 2008, the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in India’s sprawling west coast city became a battleground as terrorists stormed the luxury accommodation. This cinematic retelling of the true events sees a dedicated hotel chef (Anupam Kher) and waiter (Patel) risk their lives to protect their guests. As the situation escalates further, an American couple (Armie Hammer and Nazanin Boniadi) is forced to make very tough choices to protect their newborn son.

‘Deepwater Horizon’ (2016)
I highlighted “Deepwater Horizon” last week, but it remains a new to Netflix thriller worthy of your watchlist. Like the above “Hotel Mumbai,” it’s based on a true story, in this case, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion. Similarly, because of its grounding in reality, the dramatic beats really hit home. Plus, the impressive special effects are a highlight, making each dramatic beat hit home, and showing the human cost of this devastating disaster.
On April 20, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon oil drilling rig exploded, instantly killing multiple crew members and leaving the survivors in a dangerous situation as flames engulfed the installation. The movie version of events follows technician Mike Williams (Wahlberg) as he attempts lead his colleagues to safety while battling against the chaos. The gritty, intense thriller movie also stars Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, Dylan O’Brien and Kate Hudson.
