Tyrese Maxey 1st Points Scorer (+582): The Sixers are taking on the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. ET in one of the six games on the NBA schedule for Saturday. Maxey’s first point scorer prop is getting lots of attention since he’ll again have to carry a heavy workload with Joel Embiid and Paul George ruled out and VJ Edgecombe doubtful. Maxey has a 29.9% usage rate on the season and has scored the first points in four of his last 12 games. He leads the team with nine first baskets made this season, and the Sixers win the tip-off in 54.8% of their games, giving them a very slight advantage over the Hawks, who only win the tip-off in 52.4% of their games. Taking any player to be the first scorer is high-risk, but Maxey would return almost 6:1 odds if he does get the first basket on Saturday.
Giannis Antetokounmpo 1st Points Scorer (+469): Giannis and the Bucks host the Jazz on Saturday night, and even though Giannis isn’t all the way ramped up to a full workload, he makes sense as a longshot play for the first points of the game since he’ll be in such a favorable matchup and likely be able to attack the beleaguered Jazz frontcourt right away. The Bucks don’t win the tip-off very often (just 26.2% this season), but Giannis has made the first basket in six of his 32 games, giving him more first baskets than the rest of the lineup around him on Saturday, even though he missed so many games. He didn’t make the first basket in either of his two games since returning to the lineup, but he’ll be in a favorable matchup with plenty of usage on Saturday, so look for him to come out aggressive in this smash spot against the Jazz.
Onyeka Okongwu 8+ Rebounds (-192): The Hawks’ big man has at least eight rebounds in five straight games and six of his last seven after pulling in eight boards against Giannis and the Bucks on Wednesday. He’s averaging 7.9 rebounds in 31.4 minutes per game in his 57 games this season, and he has a good matchup on Saturday against the 76ers, who won’t have Joel Embiid. Taking on Adem Bona and Andre Drummond along with former Hawk Dominick Barlow should be a matchup that tilts in Okongwu’s favor, and the public likes playing this safer alternative rebound line, possibly as part of SGPs or Parlays in addition to taking it straight up as a conservative play on Saturday.
