How far does making $100,000 a year get you in San Antonio?
According to a new study, six figures stretches further in the Alamo City than in most cities in the United States. The report from SmartAsset calculated the “true value” of $100,000 in each city after accounting for taxes and local cost of living.
San Antonio had the eighth-highest value of the 69 cities in the study.
The value of $100,000 in San Antonio has increased over the past year – but just slightly. In 2024, making six figures here got you $86,084, the study said. In 2025, the same salary gets you $86,419.

That’s in line with a nationwide trend. The value of $100,000 increased over the past year in 68% of the cities in the study.
San Antonio fared better than most – but not all – Texas cities on the list. Corpus Christi had the second-highest purchasing power in the country, behind only Oklahoma City. El Paso also ranked near the top.
Still, a six-figure salary stretches further in San Antonio than in other major Texas metro areas. In Austin, $100,000 has a value of $82,446, compared with $84,840 in Houston and $80,103 in Dallas.
The lowest-ranking Texas city in the study was Plano, where $100,000 has a purchasing power of $72,653.
