PITCHING REPORT: In Tempe, right-hander Grayson Rodriguez gave up four runs in 3⅔ innings, allowing three hits and walking two. “Fastball location was bad,” Rodriguez said. “Got a little wild there in the second. I wasn’t able to throw strikes. A lot of big-leaguers in that lineup, so obviously they’re going to make me earn it.” Rodriguez’s fastball averaged 94 mph, which is down from his average of 96 mph in his first game of the spring. Rodriguez said he’s still feeling “good, excited to be out there.” … Right-hander Kirby Yates pitched a scoreless inning. Yates has allowed one run in three innings this spring. … Left-hander Brent Suter worked 1⅔ innings and gave up three runs. … In Las Vegas, right-hander Ryan Johnson pitched four scoreless innings, allowing one hit. He didn’t walk a batter and he struck out four. … Left-hander Drew Pomeranz and right-hander Jordan Romano each worked a scoreless inning.
HITTING REPORT: In Tempe, Mike Trout grounded out to shortstop and then reached 30.0 feet per second on his sprint to try to beat the throw. He was out, but it was Trout’s first recorded run to reach the 30 threshold since before he hurt his knee in April 2024. Trout struck out in his other two trips. … Zach Neto doubled, driving in a run. Neto is hitting .333 (7 for 21) with a 1.032 OPS this spring. … Jorge Soler singled and walked twice. DEFENSE REPORT: In Tempe, the Angels nearly turned a triple play, but ended up with just one out. With the bases loaded and no outs, second baseman Christian Moore fielded a soft line drive on a hop just behind second. The runners had to hold to see if he’d catch it in the air. He stepped on second for one and then threw to Vaughn Grissom at first. Grissom tried to make a quick transfer to throw home, but the ball popped out of his glove. The umpire then ruled that he didn’t even have it long enough to get the second out. … Minor-league first baseman Jake Alford caught a pop-up while running with his back to the plate. He then threw to second to double off the runner. … In Las Vegas, first baseman Nolan Schanuel made an error on a ground ball.
