The Greek women’s national basketball team began preparations on Saturday for its upcoming qualifiers for EuroBasket Women 2027, gathering at the indoor arena “D. Kaltsas” in Vyronas.
The national team started training ahead of its first game in the second qualifying window of the first round, where Greece will face Croatia women’s national basketball team on Wednesday, 11 March at 20:00 in Sibenik.
Greece currently sits second in Group 6 with two wins and one loss. The team will then host North Macedonia women’s national basketball team on 14 March at 15:30 and Denmark women’s national basketball team on 17 March at 17:00. Both matches will take place at the Ivanofeio arena in Thessaloniki, which will host the national team for the first time since the 1991 Mediterranean Games.
Guard Renia Karlafthi missed the opening training session due to an ankle sprain and did not participate in practice. In her place, the coaching staff called up Naya Stoligka of Proteas Voulas, who joined the squad and trained normally.
Anni Konstantinidou, a member of the board of the Hellenic Basketball Federation, attended the session.
At the end of training, the technical staff and the federation marked International Women’s Day by presenting each player and member of the delegation with a bouquet of roses in a symbolic gesture of appreciation and respect.
Head coach Petros Prekas leads the national team, while Evina Maltsi serves as general manager.
