When Sara Young learned that her long-distance boyfriend had a layover in her local airport, the Dallas resident sprang into action.
Knowing they wouldn’t have time to see each other outside the airport, as he only had a 30-minute layover, she decided to buy a plane ticket to get inside. Young, 21, tells PEOPLE that her boyfriend is an active military member, so she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see him.
“I have no idea when the next time will be,” Young says, noting that they met at the Dr. Pepper factory in Waco, Texas and have been together for a little more than six months.
Young says she spent around $70 on the ticket, which she didn’t actually use, and bought it after her boyfriend got his orders. While it wasn’t a surprise, Young was grateful to have the time with him, no matter how little.

On Feb. 6, Young posted a TikTok video about their quick reunion, captioned, “Falling in love is buying a ticket just to get into the airport to see your long-distance boyfriend for 30 minutes between flights.”
She said that “it was an absolute coincidence that he had a layover in Dallas,” but regardless, it was “such a blessing!”
The video went viral, amassing over 2 million views. One of the reasons she shared it, Young says, is that she wants other military spouses and partners to know that “life has its ways of working out.”
“I always love watching long-distance reunions on TikTok and this was a really cute video,” she says. “I didn’t expect the video to get as much publicity as it did, but I was definitely surprised that many people cared to see me and him hug.”
Young also shares that it was important to show other military partners that “some days it’s going to be hard and some days it’s going to be easy, but don’t give up, they need you more than you know.”
