A newly listed Steam game called Pickmon blends Pokemon-style creature collecting with open-world survival and crafting systems reminiscent of Palworld.
The store page lists PocketGame and NetworkGo as the game’s developer and publisher, respectively, and describes a world filled with collectible creatures known as Pickmon.
While the former has no other game credits on Valve’s storefront, NetworkGo developed and published Hainya World in 2023, which took similar obvious inspiration from existing games, namely Maple Story and Minecraft.
Pickmon combines creature collecting with open-world survival
According to Pikmon’s Steam page, players explore a large continent populated by creatures, which can be captured using special cards and then used in combat while traveling across the game’s world.
Maps span several environments including jungles, deserts, tundra, and volcanoes, with players tasked with uncovering the secrets of an ancient civilization while stopping a mysterious organization operating in the region.
Alongside its creature-collecting systems, players can gather resources, build homes and farms, and construct automated factories that produce weapons, tools, and other equipment needed to survive.
If that sounds simultaneously reminiscent of Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, and Palworld to you, you’re not alone. Designs obviously inspired by Pikachu and Link from The Legend of Zelda are present in preview screenshots. There’s even one character who looks like Roadhog from Blizzard’s Overwatch.
Considering Nintendo’s reputation for being litigious, including going after Palworld for its similarities to Pokemon, it’ll be interesting to see if the company decides to pursue legal action against this newcomer.
Pickmon does not yet have a release date.
