Over half of U.S. women 50 and older say they feel less financially secure than they did a year ago, according to a new AARP survey. Financial anxiety – driven by the rising cost of living, and worries over Social Security’s long-term viability – may influence one of the nation’s most pivotal voting blocs in the 2026 midterm elections.
The National Press Foundation will host a webinar to help journalists report on these economic issues and potential political impact with nuance and expertise. Join NPF and a panel of experts for a free online briefing from 1-2 p.m. ET, Thursday, April 9, 2026.
This panel discussion will review the findings and methodology of the survey of a significant and increasing share of registered voters. The webinar will cover concerns such as retirement, health care costs and caregiving that are important to women 50+ and will equip journalists with real-world examples and fresh story angles to help your audience understand the economic pressures defining this election cycle.
Panelists will include:
- Kristen Soltis Anderson, founding partner of Echelon Insights
- Nancy LeaMond, executive vice president and chief advocacy & engagement officer, AARP
- Margie Omero, principal at polling firm GBAO
Additional speakers will be listed here as they are confirmed.
