NILES, Ohio – The Macy’s in Eastwood Mall will celebrate the arrival of its high-fashion, off-price concept, Macy’s Backstage, with a grand opening event from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 14.
The event will feature:
- Sweet treats from One Hot Cookie.
- A live DJ and face painting for children.
- A chance to score Macy’s Backstage branded swag, including 100 limited-edition reusable totes, as well as store gift cards.

Risograph Art on Display at Gallery
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – “RISO: Artworks by Youngstown State University Department of Art Faculty and Staff,” created from Risograph Printing, is on view through April 10 in the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery in Bliss Hall on the YSU campus.
An opening reception will take place at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12. It is free and open to the public. The exhibition is presented by the school’s art department.
The exhibition showcases work by 13 YSU faculty and staff members who have embraced the Risograph printer – a hybrid medium that bridges digital production and traditional printmaking. It is curated by Amy Copeland.
Known for its vibrant inks, layered color process and distinctive imperfections, the Risograph invites artists to work through experimentation, limitation and chance.
Because the Risograph prints one color at a time using individual drums, artists must carefully separate their images and anticipate how inks will interact as they overlap. Fluorescent pinks, bright yellows and deep blues combine to produce surprising new hues and dynamic contrasts, transforming limited palettes into vibrant compositions. Rather than correcting the medium’s characteristic quirks – occasional misregistration, subtle ink variation – many of the artists in this exhibition embrace them.
Participating artists include Copeland, Ashley Johnston, Alyssa Keil, Amanda Spinosa, Chauncey Hay, Claudia Berlinski, Dana Sperry, Dragana Crnjak, Joy Christiansen Erb, Joe D’Uva, Michelle Nelson, Sebastian Giraldo and Zachary Clifford.
Film Spotlights Photographer Joan Roth
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Area Jewish Film Series will show “A Feminist Lens: The Art & Activism of Photographer Joan Roth” at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane.
The 30-minute documentary focuses on five decades of Joan Roth’s pioneering photography, in which she used her camera to advocate for homeless women in New York City, documented leaders in the U.S. Women’s Movement from the 1970s through today and illuminated the diverse lives of Jewish women around the world.
The event will include a mini-gallery of Roth’s work, as well as a live talk back via Zoom with her. Light refreshments will be served.

Basket Raffle for Medical Society Alliance
POLAND, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley Medical Society Alliance’s annual basket raffle will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 26 at The Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Drive.
More than 100 baskets will be available to bid on. The event will also include a luncheon and live entertainment by One Cello.
The entrance fee is $60.
Proceeds will benefit Mahoning Valley CPR in schools, with first aid training kits.
The Medical Society Alliance supports the local medical community while advancing charitable initiatives that improve the health and well-being of the region.
Auditions for ‘The Shark Is Broken’
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auditions for the Youngstown Playhouse’s production of “The Shark Is Broken” will take place from 6-9 p.m. April 6 and 7 in the Moyer Room of the theater on Glenwood Avenue.

Director Brendan Boyle is seeking three actors to portray Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider in the show, which takes a comedic look behind the filming of the blockbuster hit “Jaws.”
