Greece has opened a special repatriation flight from Dubai to Athens for citizens who have been unable to return home with their pets.

The move responds to a problem that has left dozens of Greek nationals in the United Arab Emirates without a practical route back during the wider repatriation effort from Middle East.

Greece helps citizens return home with pets

According to reports, about 50 Greek citizens remain in Dubai because standard repatriation flights have not offered a workable option for traveling with companion animals.

Many passengers have faced strict transport rules, heavy paperwork requirements and high extra costs linked to pet travel.

Part of the wider repatriation effort

Greek authorities introduced the special flight as part of the country’s broader repatriation operation for citizens affected by disruption in the region.

The initiative aims to support those who were unwilling or unable to leave their pets behind and needed a return option that could accommodate both owners and animals.

Limited seats for interested travelers

Officials have urged interested travelers to register as early as possible because capacity is limited.

Pet transport on repatriation flights still depends on airline procedures and health documentation requirements, but the dedicated service gives citizens who could not travel under normal conditions a clearer path home.
