$3.9 Million Federal Funding For Quantum Computing Technology To Advance Chemistry And Materials Science


Infleqtion announced it has been selected to receive $3.9 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) to advance quantum computing applications for chemistry and materials science.

The funding is part of ARPA-E’s Quantum Computing for Computational Chemistry (QC3) program, which aims to develop and apply quantum algorithms to accelerate simulations in chemistry and materials science. The initiative aims to support breakthroughs in energy-related technologies, including superconducting power lines, advanced batteries, rare earth magnets, and catalytic systems.

Infleqtion’s project under the QC3 program will focus on discovering new high-temperature superconductors and materials that conduct electricity with zero losses. While superconductors are currently used in applications such as MRI machines, their broader use in energy transmission has been limited by the need for extremely low operating temperatures.

Using its neutral-atom quantum computing platform and a newly developed algorithm, Infleqtion plans to improve scientific understanding of superconductivity and help identify previously unknown materials with superconducting properties.

The new award builds on the company’s existing collaboration with ARPA-E. Infleqtion is also working on a separate $6.2 million contract as part of the Enhancing Neutral-atom Computers for Optimizing Delivery of Energy (ENCODE) program. That initiative focuses on applying quantum-enhanced computational methods to improve energy grid optimization.

The ENCODE project includes collaborations with Argonne National Laboratory, the National Laboratory of the Rockies, the Electric Power Research Institute, and ComEd. It represents the Department of Energy’s first quantum-focused program dedicated to advancing energy grid optimization.

Infleqtion plans to present its quantum technology portfolio at the ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit in San Diego from April 7 to April 9, 2026.

Infleqtion develops quantum computing, networking, sensing, and security technologies using neutral-atom systems. The company also offers quantum optical clocks, RF receivers, inertial sensors, and its proprietary Superstaq quantum computing software platform. Its technologies are used by organizations including the U.S. Department of War, NASA, and the U.K. government, and the company has multiple collaborations with NVIDIA.
