Blue Raiders top Colonels in run rule fashion


MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Softball (12-10, 3-0 CUSA) walked off Eastern Kentucky (11-13, 0-0 ASUN) in a midweek duel at the Blue Raider Softball Field. The Blue Raiders took down the Colonels by a score of 9-1 in six innings.  

The Blue Raiders opened up scoring on a stolen base by Macie Harter to tie up the game in the bottom of the first. Middle Tennessee quickly began to settle in at the plate as Lexi Medlock drove in two more runs off a double in the bottom of the second to take the lead that would not be relinquished for the rest of the game. The Blue Raiders blasted two home runs, one off the bat of Ansley Blevins and the other coming from a pinch hitting appearance from Sabria Ritto that would walk the game off for Middle Tennessee in the bottom of the sixth. 

Tori Coffman got the start in the circle for the Blue Raiders. Coffman pitched two innings of hitless work and did not give up an earned run. Mary Martinez and Halle Klaiber each pitched an inning of scoreless relief before Braelyn Hall entered in the fifth to close out the game and record the win. As a staff, Middle Tennessee only gave up two hits, one run and one walk in the 21 batters faced, finishing the game with a 0.00 ERA. 

By the Numbers 

  • 4: Today’s game against EKU is the fourth this season that the Blue Raiders have not allowed an earned run. 
  • 8: After home runs off the bats of Ansley Blevins and Sabria Ritto, today’s game against the Colonels marks the eighth in a row that the Blue Raiders have gone yard. 
  • 12: Middle Tennessee turned its 12th double play of the season against EKU, putting the Blue Raiders on top of Conference USA in the stat category.

Middle Tennessee is slated to host Liberty in a three-game Conference USA series at the Blue Raider Softball Field. The first game will begin at 6:00 p.m. CT on Friday, March 13.
