BMG acquires A Flock of Seagulls’ catalogue | Publishing

BMG has acquired the publishing catalogue and sound recordings of 1980s new wave band A Flock of Seagulls.

Under the agreement, BMG assumes ownership of the band’s publishing rights in the United States and participates in publishing income globally.

BMG has also acquired worldwide ownership of the sound recordings for the band’s core studio albums – A Flock of Seagulls (1982), Listen (1983), The Story Of A Young Heart (1984) and Dream Come True (1986).

Dan Baxter, SVP, global catalogue recordings, said: “A Flock Of Seagulls pushed new wave into widescreen territory, pairing cinematic synths with a bold visual identity that redefined what pop could look and sound like. Their expansive, immersive records helped define the MTV era and left a clear imprint on generations of alternative and electronic artists. These recordings still resonate across generations, and we’re proud to bring their ambition and atmosphere to new audiences worldwide.”

A Flock Of Seagulls’ Mike Score said: “We chose to partner with BMG because we believe in its vision to elevate and extend our music to new audiences and generations. We are gratified by their passion and commitment to our music and legacy.”

Formed in Liverpool in 1979, A Flock Of Seagulls broke through internationally with their 1982 debut and the hit I Ran (So Far Away), followed by tracks including Space Age Love Song and Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You).

Across four studio albums, the band built a body of work that achieved major certifications in key markets and continues to find new audiences around the world. A Flock Of Seagulls have more than three million listeners on Spotify.

In a statement, BMG said the latest acquisition reflects its continued strategy of “investing in culturally significant, globally resonant catalogues with lasting value”.

It follows the 2025 acquisition of country music superstar Jason Aldean’s recorded music catalogue along with interests in the recorded catalogues and publishing rights of a wider music collection from a cross-section of 23 artists and songwriters. The entire acquisition encompassed 1,000-plus songs across multiple genres.

Most recently, BMG also acquired the recordings catalogue of German rock band Luquido.
