Mavericks Share Klay Thompson Injury News in 15th NBA Season

Klay Thompson has been on a heater for the Dallas Mavericks of late. The 35-year-old has played four straight games for Dallas, averaging 17.3 points on 47.1% shooting in 23.3 minutes off the bench. The five-time All-Star has also knocked down 4.5 triples per contest on a highly efficient 43.9% clip.

The Mavs, however, have still struggled badly despite Thompson’s strong play. They lost all four contests and are currently riding an eight-game losing streak.

Thompson was a late addition to the injury report for Thursday’s game. The Mavericks announced ahead of tip-off that Thompson will not play against the Grizzlies. The official injury diagnosis for the two-time All-NBA shooting guard’s unwanted absence is for rest purposes.

It does not sound like Thompson sustained a new injury. It appears that Dallas is merely giving him the night off amid its grueling schedule.

The Mavs are back in action on Friday for a second game in two nights. They host the Cleveland Cavaliers at home, and the team has decided to have Thompson sit out the front end of the back-to-back set. He could be back in the lineup against Cleveland.

With Thompson sitting out on Thursday, Caleb Martin will likely find his way back to head coach Jason Kidd’s rotation.
