During GDC, Google announced several new gaming-focused updates for Google Play, including game trials, cross-platform purchases, and new community posts. The company is focused on turning Google Play into a larger gaming hub: in the coming months, Moonlight Peaks, Sledding Game, and Low-Budget Repairs will be available to players on both mobile and PC through Google Play Games, with Gamer Profiles syncing progress across devices.
To address the need to buy separate versions of the same game for different devices, Google is introducing “Buy once, play anywhere” pricing. Starting with select paid games like the Reigns series, OTTTD, and Dungeon Clawler, a single purchase on Google Play will grant access to both the mobile and PC versions of the game.
Also, a new Game Trials feature will let players try a portion of a paid game for free before deciding to purchase it. The feature is already rolling out to select mobile games and will eventually expand to Google Play Games on PC.
Users can now add games to a wishlist and receive notifications when they go on sale. They can also ask and answer game-related questions directly within the platform through community posts.
