KATERINI, Greece – A public prosecutor in Katerini on Friday ordered a preliminary investigation into an attack by a pack of stray dogs on a 61-year-old German woman, in a rural area between Litohoro and Dion, in the region of Pieria.
The woman, who was admitted to Katerini Hospital and underwent surgery for her injuries, on Friday remained intubated in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the hospital.
According to the Hellenic Police, the attack occurred around noon on Wednesday. The 61-year-old, who was on holiday in the area, had gone out for a walk when she was attacked by a pack of dogs. She suffered injuries to her head and various parts of her body. She was taken to a local health center and then rushed to hospital.
The authorities arrested and later released a 65-year-old deputy mayor responsible for issues related to stray animals in connection with the case, pending the prosecutor’s investigation.
