Favourite island in Greece: Santorini
Yes, Santorini is one of the most popular Greek islands, and for good reason: it’s also one of the loveliest. When the sun starts to fade and the twinkling lights from the hotels along the cliff face begin to glow over the caldera, it’s something uniquely beautiful. Then there’s the deep pinky golden ombre sunsets every summer evening (some of the most divine I’ve seen throughout all of my European travels), and the days spent bouncing from yacht to beach to pool – bliss.
Top travel tip: Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, book dinner at Canaves Epitome one evening. You will not regret it. The octopus bolognese, made with a secret blend of spices that tastes unlike anything I’ve ever had, is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten, hands down. I’d return just for another plate.
One piece of clothing I pack every time: A floaty maxi dress – it’s the ultimate multi-purpose piece. It’s an easy option for dinner, but also good for providing protection from the sun in the hottest part of the day while still remaining cool and breathable. I’m really pale, so sunburn is near-unavoidable despite slathering on endless amounts of SPF, so a light protective layer is a must. In a similar vein, I also bring a hat with the widest brim I can find!
One packing hack: It’s nothing new or exciting but switching from buying a holiday read in the airport’s Waterstones to using a Kindle was a game-changer. It saves so much weight in your luggage and ensures you’ll never run out of books, even if you’re the type to churn through two or three books on a break. Plus, it’s slim enough to slip into even your smallest day bag. Mine looks thoroughly battered now, but I never go anywhere without it.
