dvm360: How is curiosity in science fostered in associates at Mars Veterinary Health?
Dottie Brown, DVM, MS, DACVS: It’s a one of the most amazing things. So, it’s only been in the last 2 years that we’ve put all of the reporting infrastructure into place to really know what our associates are doing and what the research output is from them. And the thing that’s been amazing is there is an enormous amount of curiosity from our associates globally. And in this report, there’s over 500 publications that come from our associates just in 2025 and that’s amazing. And knowing what we know, in particular that house officers—so residents and interns in particular—have a great need to be publishing, it’s part of their journey to get credentialed for specialty, for example. We put infrastructure into my team now to very specifically, in a personalized way, on a one on one way, help them define a research question, help them get the data that they need, understand how to set up their spreadsheets, understand what kind of statistical support they need, and get that for them all the way through to publication, so that we can foster this curiosity in a way that is really impactful for the health officers that are part of our health care network.
