Labrinth blasts ‘Euphoria,’ music industry in cryptic post

Labrinth is taking aim at the entertainment industry in a cryptic new social media post.

On Friday, March 13, the 37-year-old musician took to Instagram to blast both Columbia Records and “Euphoria,” the HBO show for which he served as lead composer. “I’m done with this industry,” the singer-songwriter wrote over a black screen. The post was not accompanied by a caption.

“[Screw] Columbia. Double [screw] ‘Euphoria,'” the statement continued. “I’m out. Thank you and goodnight.” USA TODAY has reached out to Labrinth’s representatives for comment.

Labrinth is currently signed to Columbia Records. The major label, owned by Sony Music Entertainment, issued his latest album “Cosmic Opera: Act I” in January.

Born Timothy Lee McKenzie, Labrinth rose to fame in the mid-2010s. His 2014 single “Jealous” was certified platinum in the U.K. in 2018, the same year he formed the group LSD alongside DJ Diplo and singer Sia.

Also a rapper and record producer, Labrinth was brought on to score the soundtrack for the debut season of “Euphoria” in 2019, a feat for which he was nominated for two Emmy Awards and took home one.

The third and newest season of “Euphoria,” set five years after Season 2, is scheduled to premiere on HBO on April 12. The show’s official trailer, released on Jan. 14, gave fans a glimpse into the characters’ futures and what to expect in the latest installment of the teen drama.
