An adrenaline shot from start to finish, this time-ticking techno thriller takes you through three different scenarios, each with the same goal: Lola (Franka Potente) has to find 100,000 Deutschmarks in 20 minutes in order to save her boyfriend Manni (Moritz Bleibtreu). 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
The classic-literature-as-coming-of-age-movies boom of the ‘90s gave us some real gems. There was of course Clueless, based on Jane Austen’s Emma, and Romeo + Juliet based on, well, Romeo & Juliet. But none endure into the 2020s quite like 10 Things I Hate About You, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. A singular snapshot of ‘90s grunge Seattle, beyond its seamless fitting reworking into a private high school with cool kids, nerds and outsiders, it boasts a stellar cast of it-players of the time, including Heath Ledger, who emerged as a once-in-a-lifetime charismatic heartthrob here.
