The Pirates of Penzance’ Sails Into Wildwood

A beloved musical comedy known for its wit, whirlwind romance and unforgettable music is bringing a touch of mischief to central Arkansas this weekend.

Christina Muñoz joined Saturday Daybreak to spotlight The Pirates of Penzance. The Gilbert and Sullivan classic that has delighted audiences for generations is a playful tale of young love, mistaken identity and a band of boisterous pirates who are anything but fearsome.

At the center of the story is Frederic, a young man mistakenly apprenticed to a spirited but bumbling pirate crew. Determined to leave that life behind, he sets his sights on a new future, and quickly falls for Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley. But when a lie is uncovered and an “ingenious paradox” threatens to unravel everything, the story turns into the kind of joyful chaos that has made The Pirates of Penzance one of musical theatre’s most enduring comedies.

Known for its quick wit and one of the most famous patter songs ever written for the stage, the production promises an afternoon of laughter, heart and timeless charm.
