‘Scared to Death’ Actor B.J. Minor On Stardom, Fashion, & Wrestling

For a young, rising star like B.J. Minor, “Scared to Death” represents the opportunity of a lifetime, the chance to star in an original movie alongside genre legends like Bill Moseley and Lin Shaye. Minor has paid their dues in Hollywood, with notable credits including a teenage Mike Tyson in the Hulu miniseries, “Mike,” alongside Harvey Keitel, as well as a recurring role in Season 3 of Peacock’s “Bel-Air” series.

In “Scared to Death,” Minor plays an actor cast in a horror movie, “Death House.” In order to prepare for production on the movie, the principal cast and director take part in a seance at the filming location. This being a horror movie, things take a turn for the supernatural pretty quickly. However, it’s also a comedy that plays with your expectations for this type of scary flick, leading to a result that’s as unpredictable as it is enjoyable.

“Scared to Death” succeeds due to multiple factors, including strong chemistry between its cast members, a strong sense of geography with its setting, and a unique script that plays with genre conventions with a wink and a smile, deftly tap-dancing around familiar situations in creative new ways.

Below is my interview with B.J. Minor. We talk about their work on “Scared to Death,” and Minor’s delight that they would be co-starring with their old friend, Victoria Konefal (look forward to that interview in the coming days!). They also share some of their history through the Hollywood ecosystem and favorite pastimes, including an affinity for karaoke. “Scared to Death” is out now in theaters.
