We’re a mere two months out from the release of the first Star Wars movie in over six years, and if a listing from UK theater chain Odeon is to be believed, we now know exactly how long we’ll be in the presence of The Mandalorian and Grogu when the movie releases this summer.
According to Odeon’s website, the runtime of The Mandalorian and Grogu is 140 minutes. That sounds about right for live-action Star Wars, as the Disney-era movies have clocked in at 135-140 minutes with remarkable consistency. In fact, the only outlier to date is The Last Jedi, which topped 150 minutes.
Though it’s been a few years since The Mandalorian season 3, you might recall that episode lengths can fluctuate anywhere from sub-30 minutes to around 45 minutes, often including lengthy credits. If your brain isn’t up to mathing on a Monday morning, that puts The Mandalorian and Grogu somewhere in the region of four to five back-to-back episodes of the show, which would be half a typical season in one pop. Not too shabby.
Now, here’s the catch: this runtime needs to be taken with a serious pinch of salt. While Odeon did reportedly debut an exclusive, in-theater-only trailer over the weekend, it’s possible this is just a best-guess runtime, so the site isn’t full of unsightly placeholder text. After all, The Mandalorian and Grogu hasn’t been officially rated by the MPAA, or its British equivalent, the BBFC, yet, which could mean Jon Favreau is still tinkering away on the film.
Whatever the final runtime of The Mandalorian and Grogu turns out to be, there’s plenty to be excited about, despite the fact that the actual story is still something of a mystery. In recent weeks, the film has come under fire for its curious marketing, including a bizarre Superbowl commercial that seemed to satisfy precisely no one. But a subsequent trailer has one of our writers convinced The Mandalorian and Grogu will be worth the 7-year wait. Whatever the result, it’s only a matter of weeks before we find out.
