Injured sharpshooter Stephen Curry watched helplessly from the sidelines as his Golden State Warriors blew a 21-point lead to the New York Knicks on Sunday.

After the game, Curry sent a strong five-word message about his team.

“That’s not who we are,” Curry told The Athletic’s Nick Friedell after the Warriors suffered a 110-107 defeat to the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

“If we have stuff to play for, we play. So, I’m working to get back,” he added.

Warriors Lose Fifth in a Row

The Warriors lost their fifth consecutive game on Sunday, following defeats to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Chicago Bulls, Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder over the past week. During this five-game stretch, they’ve been outscored by 5.8 points, while shooting a concerning 42% from the field and 33% from three. Even more concerning, they’ve been outrebounded by 6.1 boards per game and have allowed 47.0 paint points per game, offering very little resistance in the interior.

Those issues are unlikely to be resolved, as the Warriors are set to be without Al Horford (calf strain) for at least another week, while Kristaps Porzingis (illness) is once again battling the illness that has forced him to miss most of 2026. The one positive for the Warriors is that a returning Quinten Post tallied 22 points against the Knicks on Sunday, but interior defense, especially late in the game, left a lot to be desired.

Stephen Curry Injury Update

Curry, who missed his 17th straight game on Sunday, is expected to return at some point during the final few weeks of Golden State’s regular-season slate. The four-time NBA champion confirmed as much on Sunday, ruling out the possibility of the Warriors shutting him down for the rest of the season.

When asked to respond to fans who suggested that he should rest and return next season, Curry said, “I agree with that statement.”

He continued: “Before next year. I know we’re depleted, but the idea of my injury is just getting information by the day of, ‘Can I play safely? Be myself out there and not put myself in danger short term or long term?’ And then, we still have stuff to play for. We’d love to see guys in a playoff series and take a swing.

“Hopefully, see this team that’s currently constructed healthy for a stretch to learn as much as we can and compete. That’s who we are.”

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr also sounded very confident about Curry returning at the end of the regular season.

“Well, we expect him back,” Kerr told NBC Sports’ Bob Costas.

“He’s trending in the right direction. It’s been a tricky injury, but I think he’ll be back for sure. We just don’t know if it’s going to be a week or two or whatever. It’s a day-to-day process.”

Kerr also praised Curry for traveling with the team during their ongoing six-game road trip, which began with a stop in New York and will continue with visits to the Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks over the next 10 days or so.

“He’s in good spirits, and just having him on the trip is important for our morale.”
