Mike Canady, a seasoned executive with a strong background in finance and operations, has joined Stanford Graduate School of Business as chief operating and financial officer.
In this position, Canady will oversee the financial strategy and day-to-day operations of the business school. “This role builds on my core finance, operational, and investment experience,” says Canady. “I’m a learner by nature, and I’m thrilled to continue growing personally while also bringing my experience to support my new team, Stanford GSB, and the university.”

With more than 30 years of experience at Charles Schwab, Canady built a reputation there as a thoughtful leader who was both prescient and innovative. Over his career, he served as chief of staff to company founder Charles Schwab, led international operations across multiple regions, and played a key role in establishing the company’s venture capital arm.
His interest in financial markets was established early; Canady served on the student investment committee as an undergraduate at the University of California Santa Barbara, where he earned his BA, before graduating with an MBA from NYU Stern. He will bring his enthusiasm for finance to Stanford GSB. “I’ve been an active investor since my college days, so I’m really looking forward to providing leadership around the GSB’s investment initiatives,” he says.
“Mike is widely regarded as a collaborative, service-oriented leader who builds trust, listens carefully, and brings people together to solve complex problems,” says Sarah A. Soule, Philip H. Knight Professor and Dean at Stanford GSB and Morgridge Professor of Organizational Behavior. “[His] curiosity and perspective have stayed with him throughout his career, and I am delighted to welcome him to our community.”
