The Black Sacred Music Symposium & Concert XIX will be held March 19-22 presented by the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. The event is an opportunity for anyone with a passion for choral music, specifically black sacred music, to learn about and perform the music from visiting instructors, some of the nation’s most talented performing artists and scholars. According to organizers, the seminars and workshops will explore congregational song, spirituals, gospel traditions, hymnody, choral conducting, and performance practice across ecclesial, academic, and community contexts. Register here. Symposium Faculty Artists include, UNCSA Dean, Endalyn T. Outlaw, Dr. K Edward Copeland, Berris Bolton, Walter Owens Jr., Quandra Clark, Dr. Myron D. Brown and D’Walla Simmons-Burke. Dr. Ollie Watts Davis founded the Black Sacred Music Symposium in 1991 and is a distinguished professor of music at University of Illinois in addition to being an accomplished soloist.
