The Hellenic Armed Forces have just launched a pilot program allowing women to voluntarily serve in the Hellenic Army.
The program is open to Greek women between the ages of 20 and 26 (born between 2001 and 2007) who have a clean criminal record and meet the Army’s top two physical condition categories (I/1 and I/2).
Applications are currently open and must be submitted electronically through army.gr no later than March 31.
For its inaugural year, the pilot program aims to enlist 100 women for a 12-month service starting in June 2026, with basic training taking place at the Material War Training Center (KEYP) in Lamia.
During their enlistment, women who volunteer for the Hellenic Army will acquire the exact same military status, financial compensation, and obligations as their male counterparts. Beyond equal standing, enlistment will also be officially recognized as professional experience, allowing these servicemembers to receive bonus points for Greek public sector hiring through the ASEP system.
Furthermore, women volunteer servicemembers will also have the opportunity to pursue longer-term military careers in the Hellenic Army, as Reserve Officers (YEA/DEA), Short Enlistment Soldiers (OVA), or Professional Soldiers (EPOP).
Upon completing their service, women servicemembers will be formally enrolled in the Hellenic Army reserves until they reach 40 years of age.
