Greece recorded the sixth lowest wholesale electricity price in Europe in the first ten days of March, Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou said ahead of the EU Energy Council.
Papastavrou attributed the country’s performance to its diversified energy mix, highlighting the strong contribution of renewable energy sources and hydroelectric power. He added that Greece continues to prioritize energy adequacy and price stability, with measures aimed at supporting households and businesses.
The minister warned that Europe is once again facing international pressures affecting energy markets, testing the preparedness of member states.

“Energy prices affect every household, every business and every aspect of daily life. This time, Europe must be prepared, with targeted measures and flexibility to protect citizens and businesses,” he said.
Papastavrou also referred to discussions at the Energy Council on a new package of measures for European energy networks, underlining the importance of interconnections in strengthening market resilience.
He stressed that enhanced cross-border links could play a key role in stabilizing prices and improving energy security across the continent, adding that Europe should move toward a more unified electricity market.
The discussions form part of broader EU efforts to address energy market volatility and strengthen coordination among member states amid tensions in the Middle East.
