Greece and Kazakhstan discuss direct flights and tourism cooperation

The total number of passengers transported through Athens Airport in the first nine months of 2025 amounted to 26.19 million, up 6.7% from the same period of 2024. The lion’s share, namely 18.72 million passengers, came from the international network, expanding 8.5%, while domestic passengers augmented 2.2%, to 7.47 million people. In September passengers totaled 3.48 million, against 3.3 million in September 2024, rising 5.4%. Domestic passenger traffic slightly exceeded 1 million passengers, growing 2.6%, while international passengers reached 2.47 million from 2.32 million last year, up by 6.6%.

Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and the ambassador of Kazakhstan in Greece, Sultangozhin Timur, met for talks on Wednesday, where they agreed on the importance of a direct air link between the two countries.

Timur spoke in favor of resuming the service linking Iraklio with Almaty, with Kefalogianni confirming that she strongly supports that prospect.

The Kazakh ambassador also invited Kefalogianni to visit his country in 2026, in the context of further deepening bilateral cooperation in the fields of tourism and investments.
