Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic is in the midst of a scorching run unprecedented in NBA history. Over his last seven games, the Slovenian has amassed 267 points, 56 assists, 64 rebounds, 40 made threes, 14 steals and seven blocks, while being a +73 on the floor and keeping the Lakers undefeated.

Per OptaSTATS, no player has made even 25 threes during a similar seven-game winning streak, let alone Doncic’s 5.7 3PM at a solid clip of 40.4%.

Luka Dončić of the @Lakers is the first player in NBA history to have a 7-game span with:

250+ points
50+ rebounds
50+ assists
25+ threes made
undefeated record

Luka Doncic Makes Lakers History

Doncic is also the first player in Lakers franchise history to tally at least 265+ points and 55+ assists over a seven-game span, per the NBA.

By dropping 40 points and 10 assists in Wednesday’s win over the Houston Rockets, Doncic also passed Kobe Bryant (2) for the most regular-season games with 40+ points, 10+ assists, and five made threes in Lakers franchise history. Amazingly, Doncic has played only 85 games for the Lakers since being traded by the Dallas Mavericks.

Luka Doncic MVP Odds

Lakers head coach JJ Redick praised Doncic for overcoming the Rockets for the second time in three nights, helping his team secure the tiebreaker against the West rival.

“I thought he definitely put on a clinic down the stretch,” Redick said of Doncic, via Broderick Turner of LA Times.

“Whether it was in isolation, versus fires in isolations, versus the shock with (Alperen) Segun, he just got us good offense whether for himself or for his teammates every single time down the floor….We moved the basketball, so that kind of got us going and then when Luka came back in he was just fantastic.”

Amid his historic stretch, Doncic has emerged as a serious contender to possibly challenge Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and San Antonio Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama as an MVP favorite. As of March 19, Doncic (+5000) still had the fourth-shortest odds to win the Michael Jordan Trophy, behind SGA (-1200), Wembanyama (+2000) and Denver Nuggets‘ Nikola Jokic (+2500).

While Doncic had surpassed Cade Cunningham (+8000) earlier in the week, he stands to benefit from the Detroit Pistons star getting sidelined with a collapsed lung.

Doncic, while unlikely to win MVP this season, is just happy to be on a winning squad.

“Winning’s fun, so just the way we play I think is a lot of fun,” Doncic said after Wednesday’s win. “That’s what we do. We win and we have a good time.”

The Lakers will look to extend their seven-game winning streak in an away contest against the Miami Heat on Thursday. Their road trip will continue with stops at Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers before they return home to face the Brooklyn Nets next Friday.
