American College of Greece showcases AI-first campus at EmTech Europe

The American College of Greece showcased its transformation into an AI-first institution during the “The Future of Higher Education” session at EmTech Europe 2026.

Professor Vasileios Vlasseros outlined a three-tier framework for AI adoption: basic access to tools, development of specialized applications and deployment of advanced architectures. He stressed that data readiness, rather than technology, is the main obstacle, noting MIT research showing 95% of generative AI pilots fail due to lack of end-user validation.

Researcher Alexandros Kafkas presented Nimbus, an AI agent originally developed as a student thesis, now providing real-time information on campus activities. He highlighted the importance of robust data architecture, feedback loops and security measures as ongoing processes.

Researcher Antonis Armonis introduced ARIA, an automated system for processing student enrollment requests. ARIA extracts and classifies data from emails and drafts decisions while keeping human oversight. The system has saved administrators 120 to 125 hours per enrollment cycle, allowing staff to focus on higher-value tasks rather than routine operations.
